French homophones: SON or SONT in French<\/h2>\n

French homophones mean that you hear the same thing but it’s written differently, like son and sont.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\"<img” src=”https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/14.0.0\/svg\/1f449.svg” draggable=”false”> SON<\/strong>: possessive determiner (therefore, SON is always before the noun).<\/p>\n

Ex : Son<\/span><\/strong> chien mange des croquettes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\"<img” src=”https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/14.0.0\/svg\/1f449.svg” draggable=”false”> SONT<\/strong>: verb\/auxiliary conjugated with ils\/elles (they)<\/p>\n

Ex : Elles sont<\/span><\/strong> d\u00e9licieuses.<\/p>\n

Montessori grammar to understand French homonyms<\/h2>\n

In Montessori grammar, each kind of word is associated with a symbol. With symbols, you’ll remember nouns, adjectives,.. more easily.<\/p>\n

Here are all the symbols:<\/p>\n

Learners will glue or draw the grammar symbols above each word during the grammar analysis.<\/p>\n

Then I ask the learners to underline the groups of words corresponding to the grammatical functions: subject, COD, verb, etc.<\/p>\n

This is my simplified Montessori method. It is very effective. Tested and approved by my students.<\/p>\n

This analysis of natures and functions of the words will facilitate the understanding and application of several rules in French grammar.<\/p>\n

But stop with blathering, we’ll see that in a future article.<\/p>\n

How to choose between SON<\/strong> and SONT<\/strong> in French?<\/h2>\n

SON<\/strong> : Possessive determiner<\/h3>\n

EX :\u00a0 Son<\/span> pull est sale.<\/em><\/p>\n

SON<\/strong>: Possessive determiner<\/p>\n

So I can replace “SON” with another possessive determiner in French: notre, le, un, etc<\/p>\n

EX :\u00a0\u00a0Notre<\/span> pull est sale.<\/em><\/p>\n

EX : \u00a0Le<\/span> pull est sale.<\/em><\/p>\n

SONT : <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Verb \u00caTRE conjugated in the present tense with ils\/elles (they)<\/h3>\n

\"son<\/p>\n

SONT : Verb<\/p>\n

EX : Ils sont<\/span>\u00a0Am\u00e9ricains.<\/p>\n

SONT<\/strong> : Verb (\u00eatre, present tense, conjugated with ils\/elles)<\/p>\n
